The valley of Palakkayam Thattu, which grabbed fame recently on social media, is popular for a cave named Ayyanmada Thurangam, which is believed to be the evidence of once existed Buddhist culture in the area.
The Madayipara is well known for its rich diversity of plants. The aquatic and semi-aquatic plants form extensive carpets of blue, pink, white and yellow during the monsoon season. It is typical of the Laterite foothills of the Western Ghats.
One can catch sight of herds of elephants, sambar, Nilgiri Langur, Hanuman Langur and the Malabar Giant Squirrel. It is also famous for the vast amount of butterfly species found here and during December you can see butterfly migration here. Most of these are endemic to the Western Ghats.
